Medical Response

The Carlton Ambulance responds to all medically-related emergencies in a 163.4 square mile area with a population of approximately 9,700 people. A crew of two EMTs are on-call 24/7, ready to respond to any medical emergency. Last year, Carlton Ambulance responded to over 600 medical calls.

Medical Technology

Carlton's ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained EMTs. The following are some notable devices and capabilities of Carlton Ambulance.

Physio-Control® Lucas 2®

 

Carlton Ambulance is equipped with Physio-Control® Lucas 2® device. This cardiac support pump perform optimal chest compressions on cardiac arrest victims, resulting in better patient outcomes. Chest compressions are labor intensive and typically involve two personnel alternating every few minutes. A Lucas® is able to perform continuous chest compressions, freeing up several members of the crew to tend to the patient in other ways.

BLS Variances

 

Carlton Ambulance has a number of variances to give medications and perform special procedures, including:

  • Nitroglycerine spray for patients with chest pain
  • EpiPen® autoinjecters for severe allergic reactions
  • Glucagon intramuscular injections for patients with severe hypoglycemia
  • Albuterol nebulizers for patients with difficulty breathing
  • Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices for patients with severe difficulty breathing
  • King® Airways for patients with a compromised airway
  • Intravenous Access and maintainance fluids for patients with varying conditions
